Andrew Nicholson

Andrew, CEO, founded Osprey Flight Solutions with the aim of driving a quantum shift in the capabilities available to the industry for security risk management, enabled by a focus on cutting edge computing techniques and data-led risk management. Recognised as a leader in the aviation security arena, Andrew frequently provides expert comment and analysis to the leading international news networks, discussing topical global aviation security issues, as well as being a regular contributor and featured speaker at numerous international industry events. In 2021 Andrew was named a Top 20 Dynamic CEO by The CEO Publication. After graduating with a degree in engineering, Andrew spent 12 years in the Royal Navy, 6 with UK Special Forces, which included operational tours in all major conflict regions. Leaving the military at the height of the Somali Piracy phenomenon, for 3 years Andrew led the maritime and oil and gas divisions for the largest provider of maritime security in the industry. At the same time, he was a member of the steering committee and subsequent Board of Directors for the only international human rights focused initiative for the security risk management industry. Andrew moved to International SOS and Control Risks in July 2014 to head up the aviation security team. Realising that the industry’s requirement for risk management support had changed in the wake of the MH17 disaster, Andrew co-founded Osprey, which is now recognised across the industry as the leader in open-source risk management data, developing innovative tools to support all operators, no matter their size or resource, in conducting comprehensive and accurate risk management.

Bruce Norfolk

As co-founder and Head of Partnerships, Bruce is responsible for the overall direction and vision of the business, driving rapid commercial growth and success across all sectors. With over 15 years’ experience within the aviation industry, Bruce has built a strong reputation as an innovative leader with a proven track record for increasing sales, expansion and profitability in start-up, turnaround and growth environments. Using his extensive experience in leading high-performing teams and establishing strategic partnerships, Bruce directs the Osprey team on all commercially focused activities globally, driving success at a strategic, tactical and operational level. Bruce also works closely with industry bodies to drive a collaborative approach to information sharing with the express purpose of improving aviation safety and security.

Matthew Borie

As Chief Intelligence Officer, Matt provides strategic direction for Osprey's data collection and analytical output, as well as expert analysis on a wide range of aviation-related issues, with a focus on conflict zone activity. He has 14 years of aviation security and intelligence experience in the public and private sectors. Previously, Matt worked as an intelligence analyst at the MedAire & Control Risks Aviation Security Center. Prior to that, he completed an eight-year enlistment in the US Air Force, serving as an Operations Intelligence Craftsman. During his Air Force career, Matt provided intelligence support to fighter aircraft operations, including a deployment to a location in Southeast Asia; he also completed deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Matt holds an Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Intelligence Studies from American Military University (AMU) and, in August 2015, completed a Master’s Degree in National Security Studies from AMU, followed by a Graduate Certificate in Terrorism Studies in December 2017.

As Chief Financial Officer, James’s role is to oversee the financial planning and commercial success of Osprey as well as establishing long term relationships with external stakeholders and investors. James qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2004 and has held a variety of CFO roles over the last 10 years in Private-owned, Listed and Private Equity owned companies within software and technology global businesses. He has also held COO and CEO roles improving the operational and strategic plans within organisations.

As Chief Technology Officer, Kevin oversees the development and enhancement of the Osprey system, coordinating the tech team to ensure consistent and focused delivery of new features and enhancements as well as contributing to Osprey’s ongoing planning initiatives and strategy. With over 30 years of industry experience working across diverse functions, skill levels and geographies, coordinating the creation and delivery of multiple software products. Kevin has held senior positions across multiple sectors, including Rovi Europe (now TiVo), Macrovision and Shalbourne Technology and has a solid foundation in software design and development having spent the first 10 years of his career developing desktop, webserver, and mobile-based applications.

Chris is a co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Osprey. He is responsible for the technological strategy, formulation, development and delivery of Osprey’s software solutions. With an engineering background, Chris blends his critical thinking and problem-solving skills to create innovative products that deliver step-changes in awareness and capability to clients. His career has evolved from designing submarines and exploring the infancy of AI, to corporate strategic visioning and innovation consultancy. Using his vast experience in rapid prototyping and focused design, Chris presides over the product innovation and development for Osprey, delivering fast proof of concepts and breakthrough technology solutions for the business. With over 30 years of industry experience working across diverse functions, skill levels and geographies, coordinating the creation and delivery of multiple software products. Analysts

The analysts are an integral part of Osprey. They process all the raw data from our scraper tools to decide whether it gets uploaded as a ping. They write and publish our alerts, monitor situations and events as they occur and provide insight on events for our case studies and articles.

Mark Brace

As Head of Analysis, Mark is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Analysis team, as well as contributing to the analytical output across a wide variety of topics, with particular expertise in aviation terrorism. Prior to joining, Mark worked for the UK government for over 18 years in a variety of roles in the security and intelligence spheres. For the latter part of his government career, he was the senior aviation analyst responsible for providing assessments to the highest levels of the UK government on terrorist threats to aviation globally. As well as extensive cross-government cooperation, this also included engagement with military and commercial aviation entities in the UK and overseas governments on shared areas of aviation security concern.

Analysis Output Manager

Alexandra James

As Osprey’s Analysis Output Manager, Alexandra (Ally) manages the delivery of all analysis products, including alerts and reports. She also maintains the Osprey Analytical Improvement Programme and is responsible for developing Osprey analysis quality in support of the Head of Analysis. Within the wider business, Ally's role supports marketing efforts via oversight of articles, case studies and other digital content. She also contributes to Osprey's analytical output, with a focus on migration security issues, including human trafficking and people smuggling, as well as in-flight security. She joined from Green Light where she was the sub-editor and regular contributor of the trade journal, Aviation Security International. In addition to her editorial duties, she also participated in delivering training in topics such as unruly passenger management (de-escalation and restraint techniques) and advanced interview techniques. In 2020, she also completed an MA in Forensic Linguistics at Cardiff University, with her dissertation focusing on communication between crew and aggressive airline passengers.

Isobel Linsell

Isobel is an Aviation Security Analyst. In her role, she regularly researches and compiles alerts on a range of aviation security incidents and has a particular interest in narcotics trafficking using illegal flights and aviation-related cyber security incidents. Prior to joining she was a Geopolitical Intelligence Analyst for a travel risk management company, where, in addition to this role, was part of a team that managed an airline safety database. Isobel also holds a master's degree in Security Management from the University of Portsmouth, which she obtained in 2019. For her dissertation, she conducted primary research into the development of performance measurements for Security Management Systems (SeMS) within the aviation sector.

Sean is an Aviation Security Analyst. His role is to assess risks and trends, looking at how ongoing and one-time events can impact the security of operators globally, with a special interest in aviation security in Africa and Asia. Prior to joining Osprey, Sean worked for many years in the travel and security industry, alongside government agencies. He also holds a master’s degree with distinction in Intelligence and Security Studies from Brunel University.

Mathilde is an Aviation Security Analyst. She has a particular interest in crime perpetrated at aviation facilities and corruption among employees, especially in Latin America. Prior to joining Osprey, Mathilde was a geopolitical intelligence analyst for a strategic intelligence and advisory firm where she specialised in identifying security, financial, regulatory, political and cyber risks to businesses in the Americas and Sub-Saharan Africa. She also worked for a global travel security consultancy company identifying risks to business travellers. Mathilde holds a master’s degree in security, Intelligence, and Risk Management from Sciences Po Lille, France. During her final internship as part of her studies, she worked for a geopolitical consultancy where she developed one of the first case studies examining security threats facing a specific airline.

Victoria Hunter-Jaap

As Director of Client Success at Osprey, Vicky works closely with the teams to deliver a strong strategy and presence for the business, supporting on various campaigns and projects. Initially joining Osprey in 2018 as a Client Relationship Manager, Vicky made the natural transition to the marketing team, where she utilises her in-depth understanding of the industry to develop innovative and effective strategies to enhance Osprey's global brand awareness and recognition. After graduating with a degree in Tourism Management, Vicky went on to spend 18 years primarily in the commercial and corporate aviation industry. Previous roles have included cabin crew and crew manager, cabin crew recruitment, line training and ground school instructor.

Nicola comes to the business with over 15 years of experience in client-facing and customer-related roles. Even though Osprey is her first venture into the aviation industry, Nicola’s passion for service and extensive support background provides a seamless end-to-end journey for all of Osprey’s clients. Nicola believes that all clients, big or small, deserve a superlative voyage to success and that no one journey is more or less important than the next. Her devotion to service and creating the best for all makes her an asset to the Osprey family.

Laura is one of Osprey’s Client Success Managers joining in 2021. She is responsible for managing, creating and nurturing valuable client relationships. She ensures our clients have the best experience in their Osprey journey and always has the customer at the heart of everything she does. Laura brings over 15 years’ experience within account management and customer services roles and is passionate about customer success. She is used to working in and thrives in a high-pressure environment having come from a background in financial services with high-net-worth clients. She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise working alongside platforms like Osprey, having used similar technology in previous roles. Laura is constantly innovating new ways to improve the customer experience and has been an integral part of implementing new processes to deliver first-class customer services.

As Senior Marketing Coordinator, Natalie’s role involves coordinating Osprey’s marketing activity both internally and externally, this includes creating and managing campaigns, events and collateral to ensure Osprey’s activity is targeting the right audiences. Joining Osprey in 2021 she brings a wealth of marketing knowledge, having worked in a variety of fields including website design, social media planning, campaign strategy and content writing. Natalie holds a first-class honours degree in Marketing from the University of Chichester.

The Osprey tech team consists of our software engineers, data scientists and testers. This team is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Osprey system, ensuring the system is using the most innovative and up-to-date technology for the best client experience.

Adam is a Chartered Software Engineer with over 8 years of experience in the software industry. His experience has been focused on the delivery of ‘software as a service’ products that provide a range of users from citizens to professionals for both public and private sector clients.

As Osprey’s Back-End Engineering Manager, Ricardo is instrumental in delivering key product milestones. He is responsible for developing, enhancing and improving current and new products and features within the Osprey system and for the day-to-day management of the back-end team. A highly accomplished Developer with over 20 years of experience within the technology sector, Ricardo previously worked as a Team Leader and Software Architect responsible for the entire development process, he joined Osprey in 2021.

Richard Mayne

Richard’s role is to help the company to get more from its data and automate some of the laborious data processes. He writes software that does data collection, structuring and analysis, primarily using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. As head of the Data Science department, he drives the company’s roadmap for developing new descriptive and predictive solutions to ensure that Osprey remains at the cutting edge of machine- and deep learning technologies. Richard started his career as a biomedical scientist specialising in histopathology, before retraining in Computer Science. After doing postdoctoral research and university lecturing, he moved to the private sector in 2019 and began with Osprey in 2021.

As Front-End Developer Ryan is responsible for implementing visual elements that users see and interact with in the Osprey system. Delivering continuous enhancements to provide the best user experience for clients. Ryan initially worked as a freelance and contract web developer helping small businesses modernise their online presence, before joining the British Army as a Communications Systems Engineer for 5 years. He returned to the world of development working on software in events technology, and then frontend development at a digital agency, before joining Osprey in 2022.

Alan is one of Osprey’s back-end developers, in his current position, Alan focuses on the back-end of the system, providing the best solutions to access and process data to build a reliable, scalable and maintainable application. Alan has been a developer for over 6 years, developing his skills as a full-stack developer, working on a wide variety of projects ranging from shopping delivery companies, bespoke property portal management systems and money transfer platforms to NGOs before joining Osprey in 2022.

As a DevOps Engineer, Mark is responsible for building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure at Osprey. After leaving university with a degree in Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security Mark accepted a graduate position from IBM, joining their Associate Scheme to work as a Technical Consultant in Global Business Services. He then went on to train as a DevOps Engineer, becoming competent in various Cloud Computing related tools and software. Before joining Osprey, Mark worked at the Department for Work and Pensions, designing and deploying various applications and services to improve their infrastructure.

As an Automation Tester, Samragi’s main responsibility is to conduct the testing phase of the production process for system developments to ensure that final products meet company standards. Serving as a liaison between developers and customer support, she identifies whether products are functional, reliable, and meet the end user's expectations.

As Osprey's Product Manager, Tom oversees product scoping and development, ensuring that the latest data collection, processing and analytical techniques are integrated into every stage of our risk management process. He has been instrumental in the development of our industry-leading analysis framework, which we use to understand risk and provide actionable intelligence to our rapidly expanding client base. With an academic background in social and political science, Tom has carried out geo-political intelligence gathering in many contexts and has helped develop several threat monitoring programmes. In his previous analysis-focused role, Tom developed an in-depth understanding of the Osprey system, including its practices and clients’ requirements which he uses to develop and enhance our products to deliver a world-class client experience.

As Head of Commercial Finance, Catherine is responsible for helping to shape the Commercial strategy of the business, supporting the Commercial team with all financial aspects of existing and new products and markets including pricing, coordinating Osprey’s business forecast, and supporting the CFO with fund raising and banking activities. With a career that spans across a variety of industries, including financial services, defence, manufacturing, construction and sport, Catherine has developed an exceptional ability for combining financial and commercial acumen to identify and implement strategies for growth and improvement to senior leadership teams. Catherine plays a key role at Osprey by analysing all business trends and potential obstacles to evaluate the company’s financial progress towards achieving its future goals. Catherine is also a qualified management accountant and holds CIMA fellowship.

As Director Risk, Legal and Compliance, Sylvia brings a wealth of experience to the role including comprehensive legal, compliance and risk expertise. After graduating from university Sylvia undertook a traineeship at a law firm in Edinburgh and then continued with the same firm to work in the Corporate Commercial team. Other roles have included working for a Telecom company responsible for procurement before moving to head of northern region legal team. She then joined pharmaceutical and biotech company, Fischer Clinical Services/ Thermo Fisher, as European Counsel covering their business in Europe, Singapore and India & China to set up activities. Sylvia went on to join private military and security company, Aegis, in 2007 as General Counsel and became an executive director and member of Senior Leadership Board and General Counsel when they merged with private security firm, GardaWorld.

Jules Steer

Jules is Ospreys' Office Manager and HR Administrator, ensuring that the office operates smoothly and efficiently, along with providing HR related administrative support across the business. Jules has worked in a variety of sectors throughout her career, spending the initial 17 years within the aviation industry as ground and cabin crew at British Airways. She then went on to help set up an office for the England Rugby World Cup, as well as working within the recruitment, satellite communications and pharmaceutical industries, primarily in operational and administration roles.
